There are a few things you can do to help in this situation:
1) If you drag the top of the palette (by the horizontal line above the colour sample) into the middle of the screen, it will detach from the side of the screen. you can now resize the palette window and the colour patches will get larger. Now drag it back to the left side and it will snap back into place at the larger size. Use "save settings" from the settings menu to make the change permanent.
2) You can create an alternative colour scheme so yo can flip between realistic colours and your chosen emphasised colours. Right click on the palette and choose "new colour scheme". Note that there is a new label abive the colours showing "Alternate 1". Now double click on a colour and modify the RGB slider controls to make it further away from teh other colours. repeat for each colour. Now click the drop-down arrow by the "alternate 1" label and you can swich between the master colours and the alternate ones.
3) You can also right mouse click on the palette and choose "highight current colour". Now when you select a colour from the palette, it will be hilighted in the design.
4) There is also a flash colour on the right click menu of the palette. Some older machines may crash with this function or it may not look great if the machine is slow.
